Overview: Economical Grinding for Steel & Castings

FUJI Super Flex is an economical 100mm (4-inch) T27 depressed-centre flexible grinding wheel for ordinary steel and castings. A selected blend of brown and white fused alumina provides practical grinding performance while keeping everyday abrasive costs under control. Both abrasive components are aluminum oxide.

Available in 2mm and 3mm thicknesses, its thin, patterned structure supports heat dissipation and a comfortable grinding action. It is designed to balance material removal, surface finish and operating cost. For grinding only; never use it to cut metal.

Flexible Grinding vs. Heavy Stock Removal

Super Flex: Thin, Flexible Grinding

A single 100mm diameter with two thickness options. Choose it for everyday steel and casting grinding, weld blending and surface preparation where handling, heat control and finish matter.

Thicker Grinding Wheels

For substantial stock removal or demanding rough grinding, compare a suitable thicker grinding wheel such as a matching Super F2 specification. Select by the workpiece and removal task rather than assuming one wheel is best for every operation.

Where to Use Super Flex

  • General steel fabrication and workshop maintenance.
  • Grinding and cleaning accessible surfaces on cast components.
  • Weld blending and surface preparation on suitable steel workpieces.

Super Flex is not a dedicated stainless-steel wheel and is not suitable for aluminum. Choose a product specifically matched to those materials instead.

Key Advantages

Selected Alumina BlendBrown and white fused alumina are blended in a suitable proportion to balance grinding action and economy.
Practical Operating CostDesigned for cost-conscious steel and casting work without sacrificing useful grinding performance.
Heat DissipationThe thin profile and patterned surface help dissipate heat and reduce the risk of workpiece burning when used correctly.
Comfortable GrindingA flexible structure supports low-vibration, low-noise grinding. Actual exposure depends on the tool, workpiece and technique.
Resistance to LoadingDesigned to resist loading during its intended steel and casting applications, helping maintain an effective grinding action.
Coarse to Fine OptionsGrits 36 and 46 suit coarser work; 60, 80, 100 and 120 provide options for progressively finer grinding and blending.

Technical Specifications

Selection & Safe Use

Choose the grit according to the amount of material to remove and the required finish. Confirm thickness, bore, mounting accessories and grinder compatibility for the ordered wheel. Do not infer cutting suitability from the thin 2mm or 3mm profile.

  • Use only for grinding on the permitted working surface, following FUJI's instructions for the specific wheel and mounting arrangement.
  • Never use Super Flex as a metal cutting disc, and never exceed its marked maximum speed.
  • Inspect the wheel and mounting components before use; do not use damaged wheels.
  • Use the correct guard, secure the workpiece and wear suitable eye, face, hearing and respiratory protection for the task.
  • Avoid excessive pressure and prolonged grinding in one spot. Flexible construction does not remove the need to control heat, dust and vibration.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Which materials is Super Flex designed for?

Ordinary steel and castings. It is an economical steel-and-iron grinding wheel, not a dedicated stainless-steel product, and it is not suitable for aluminum.

Can the 2mm wheel be used for cutting?

No. Both 2mm and 3mm Super Flex wheels are for grinding only. Use a purpose-designed cutting disc for cutting metal.

How should I choose the grit?

Start with 36 or 46 for coarser grinding. Consider 60, 80, 100 or 120 when the task calls for a finer finish. Confirm the available grit and thickness combination with FUJI.

Can I change a 15mm bore to 16mm?

No. Order the factory-supplied 16mm version for compatible overseas equipment. Do not drill, enlarge or otherwise modify the bore.

Does low-noise grinding mean hearing protection is unnecessary?

No. Super Flex is designed for comfortable, low-noise grinding, but noise depends on the whole operation. Apply the required hearing protection and workplace exposure controls; no fixed decibel reduction is claimed.

Abrasive Wheel Selection & Technical Parameters Guide

Choosing the correct abrasive wheel is critical for both operational efficiency and JIS-compliant safety. Fuji Grinding Wheels are engineered with precise technical markings to ensure the perfect match for your specific material and machine requirements.

Understanding Fuji Markings (e.g., WA 36 P BF)

  • Abrasive Type (WA/A/AZ): Determines the suitability for material hardness (e.g., WA for hardened steel, AZ for heavy-duty alloys).
  • Grit Size (16 - 120): Indicates the coarseness. Lower numbers for rapid removal; higher numbers for precision finishing.
  • Hardness Grade (L - S): Defines the bond strength. Correct selection prevents premature wheel wear or surface glazing.
  • Bonding Agent (BF): High-grade Resinoid bond reinforced for high-speed safety and impact resistance.

💡 Expert Selection Tip

For professional export markets, always verify the Peripheral Speed (m/s) compatibility. Fuji wheels are designed to exceed JIS Burst Speed factors, but operating at the recommended R.P.M. ensures the longest tool life and cleanest cut.

Note: Mismatched grit or hardness can lead to excessive heat buildup, affecting the workpiece's structural integrity.

Fuji Abrasives Wheel Description of Marking

Global Maintenance Standard: To maintain the high safety factor of Fuji wheels, avoid exposure to excessive humidity and chemical solvents during storage. Proper care preserves the resinoid bond's strength, crucial for high-load industrial applications.

FUJI Industrial Quality & Safety Protocols

Fuji products are manufactured following strict Japanese standard process requirements. Every wheel is engineered to meet or exceed JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards), such as JIS R 6242 and B 4051. Our core engineering logic prioritizes maximum operator protection by maintaining safety factors and burst speed capabilities that often surpass the highest industry benchmarks.

Standard Region Safety Factor (Burst Multiplier) Safety Logic & Benchmark
FUJI (High Precision) > 2.0x Engineered to exceed JIS requirements for maximum reliability.
Japan (JIS R 6242) 2.0x Extreme Safety: A wheel rated at 80m/s must withstand a 160m/s burst test.
Europe (EN 12413) 1.73x Risk Balanced: Provides high safety redundancy for most industrial apps.
USA (ANSI B7.1) 1.5x Efficiency Focused: Relies on machine guarding and operational procedures.

⚠️ Essential Safety Cautions & Operational Integrity

  • 1. RPM Compliance: Never exceed the maximum R.P.M. specified on the wheel. Using the sides of the wheels for grinding is strictly prohibited, as it compromises the structural integrity of the abrasive bond.
  • 2. Mandatory Idling: Allow the tool to idle for one minute before beginning work. If a new wheel has been mounted, an idle run of three minutes is required to ensure dynamic stability.
  • 3. Workpiece Stability: All materials must be securely fastened. Improperly secured workpieces can lead to vibration, wheel binding, and unsafe kickback forces.
  • 4. Arbor Hole Integrity: Do not modify or enlarge the metal center of the arbor hole. A proper fit is critical; a mismatched arbor causes eccentric rotation and dangerous vibration levels.
  • 5. PPE Requirements: Industrial-grade face and eye protection are mandatory at all times. Ensure all protective gear meets local safety compliance standards.
  • 6. Guard Protection: Protection guards are designed to contain fragments in the unlikely event of a wheel failure. Never operate tools or machinery with guards removed.

Professional Export & Maintenance Insight

When deploying Fuji high-performance tools in overseas markets, ensure that the regional power grid frequency and voltage match the tool specifications. To maintain the superior burst speed safety of Fuji wheels, store abrasives in a dry, temperate environment. Humidity can degrade the resin bond, potentially lowering the wheel’s resistance to centrifugal forces.
